Sci Fi Books For Kids And Their Impact On A Child's Mind

By Allyson Whitley

They say it is easier to mold a young mind than it is with an old. While this statement is irrefutably true, it is how a bit frustrating to see a bunch of kids sitting around doing nothing especially in long breaks. And how are these children supposed to learn anything when they are left unguided? As parents, it is very important to implant the value of education in the minds of their children. And since scientific discoveries and astronomical expeditions are popular topics these days, why not consider giving them some good reads especially some Sci fi books for kids to tickle their fancy?

Science fiction, home of apocalyptic quests in a great utopian world, has caught on public interest since the inception of space travel narrated whimsically through the "Space Odyssey'' series. Today, a number of out-of-the-ordinary encounters have crossed over time and spaces through the fanciful minds of sci fi writers such as Suzanne Collins of the "Hunger Games'' series, Leonardo Ramirez of "The Jupiter Chronicles: The Secret of the Great Red Spot, and Madeleine L'Engle of "A Wrinkle in Time.''

Getting a young mind exposed to these imaginative and metamorphic world of unknown is great but as a parent, you also need to choose very carefully what seems to be the best for you child. Like it or not, but these these may likely lead your child to becoming deviant to the norms of society. The fictional utopia is far from the actual world and you have to constantly reminded your kid that.

Fantasy books are no doubt academically beneficial. They allow readers to actually use their minds in exploring places they may not be able to see on the planet. But no matter how good can be in fostering one's flight of fancy, the content must always never be taken for granted.

The library has a thousand of good books as much as the local bookshop does. Parents should not only be picking a bestseller simply because it is a chart-buster. It is important to browse through a few pages first before allowing their kids to read it.

Book reviews help you identify the right collection that can fill in the reading list of your child. Abstracts must also be noted down for you to know the content. A child's mind is fragile and he needs to be facilitated properly especially with a reading material.

Buying a good book is not about having your home library expanded. While there are great cliff-hanger, some are simply potboilers. For a science fiction book, it is necessary to make sure your kid has something worth learning.

Reading is having your mind emancipated. It can get you to learn things as you allow your imagination to crack the relevance of every page. This is a good leisure pursuit especially for a child considering how it likely boosts his interest in academics.

There are hundreds of good sci fi books for kids at the bookshop. But as parents, it is best to be with the children as they shop for their next book on their reading list. This is only for the best interest of their children so why not do it?
