Share And Submit Short Stories

By Jerry Murray

The internet is the ideal place for anyone who wants to write for fun or as a new career. From reporting local news to blogging to writing social media posts for business, there are many ways to earn money on a full or part time basis. Another area to consider is to write and submit short stories that are published in a number of mediums.

The online opportunities sometimes outweigh the publishing houses that follow traditional methods. Locating these companies is fairly easy, as search engines will provide links to their sites. There are also books, periodicals and writing groups that can give further information.

Once a person finds a few prospects, they may wonder what they should write about or which publisher is appropriate for their writing style. Before trying to adhere to the submission format, it may be best to jot down a few ideas. From there, a draft summary or plot with an ending that may be suitable for the designated audience could be the next step.

Often finding a productivity style can be a challenge for the new writer, as well as some who are established. Some wordsmiths jot down ideas as they come to mind while others desire structure by using an outline for each scene or chapter. Either way, or a combination of ways, may work for someone who is finding their writing voice at the same time.

A good concept is often a believable story that has a realistic ending but has other unique factors. This can take from something that happened in real life, either from a personal perspective or something that occurred elsewhere. New writers may want to make name or location changes if there are other parties that may object to their real name being used.

It can be fun to come up with new characters that live fascinating lives, even if it is not entirely real. When something is well written, people will be able to identify with characters and their interactions. However, the objective is to make it believable because a character that likes to flaunt their wealth is not likely to willingly take public transportation or shop at dollar stores for clothing.

Both new and seasoned writers may find themselves so enthused by the story writing process that it may become lengthy. Fortunately, there are many ways to go with the submission process. If it is not possible to leave out pertinent details in order to meet the word count, it can be broken into a series of short stories.

Short stories can also be used as selling tools, either to promote a more lengthy works or to cross promote another item. Lighthearted pieces tend to work best in this type of scenario, as they can be used for online content or merchandising. A story that is well written and is marketable can see different forms over time.
