Merits Of Author Visits To Middle Schools

By William Edwards

Child development is crucial and should be taken seriously by both teachers and parents. It is the kind of life that children in middle age live that shapes their future especially when it comes to studies. Primary education is vital and trying it using different techniques will make it easier for children during learning. One way to do this is through author visits to middle schools. Here are some of the advantages of the approach,

When a columnist goes to talk to students about his or her book, the students have high chances of getting empowered. Most of the students have never had a chance of being told that they can achieve all they wish for in life. Some teachers will say the students so, but the information will not have as much impact than when the words come from an author. Most will see the writer as successful when they hear their childhood story, and this will encourage them to work harder.

Another advantage of these visits is that children will start reading more than they previously learned. Students will become more confident since they can understand things better in class when they read more books, their communication becomes better, and they also become more creative. All these come from reading since books contain a lot of knowledge and even vocabularies that are crucial when it comes to writing. Concentration also improves through studying various books, and the children become more disciplined than when they do not read more.

Through these author presentations, teachers also get the chance to read the books that children are learning. By doing so, the teachers become a good role model for the children. It is also during this time that teachers get to talk about their students. Before the presentation, the teacher will have to read the book to have prior knowledge, and this is a good habit that children can copy from the teachers.

Fourth, the visits help in offering free curriculum materials. Various books will align themselves with curriculums in different ways that the writer knows best. Therefore, during the presentation, the book owner will design the display to fit the curriculum of the institution. Some will bring handouts and exercises that students use for a long time. They also provide guides for the teachers which makes teaching very easy.

If they do not give out the guides for free, most will direct the institution to their websites where they can get the materials. The guides make work easier for teachers since they gain a better understanding of the book whether fiction or nonfiction. They also get to know what to teach from the book and what to leave out making it easier for children to understand.

A writer is someone that commands a lot of respect. Most children will see writers has fortunate people hence a presentation will impact and inspire a lot of children. Many will give stories or talk about their books and their source of inspiration. By doing so, they bring their writing to life which works magic on students. They bring out their personalities that are meant to inspire children.

Last but not least, presentations by writers motivate children to work harder. Even those that did not like studies will be seen running to the library to study. Some will even realize the dreams they want to achieve hence they start taking that career path.
