Resumes: The Biggest Do's And Don'ts Regarding Long Island SEO

By Rob Sutter

For many people, the idea of writing a resume is an intimidating one. You may not know what to include, what to keep out, or even where to start writing. No matter how much you learn about this endeavor, you may not be aware of the fact that this process can be done for the sake of Long Island SEO. In order to not only rank on search engines but market yourself to potential employers, the following do's and don'ts should be considered.

DO choose the right keywords. These will vary depending on what your specialties are, not to mention what employers are looking for. First and foremost, it's important to be accurate on your resume, since no employer will want to consider a dishonest person for a position. However, you can still be honest while including the terms that they're most likely to search for. This will take time, but eventually you'll get the gist of it.

DON'T downplay the headline. The headline of your resume goes a long way, not only in terms of drawing in potential employers but ranking as well. To write the perfect headline, include keywords that are relevant to your skills and industry of choice. In addition, keep it at a reasonable length. According to companies such as fishbat, the snappier your headline is, the more likely it is that it will help you in the business world.

DO add your location. Regardless of where you live in the world, it's important for such a detail to be clearly listed on your resume. Let's say that, for the sake of argument, that you're located in Florida. You should be able to add the name in question, not to mention the abbreviated form of "FL." By including different variations, you'll be able to benefit from SEO further. Needless to say, such a simple tip can go a long way.

DON'T keep your resume the way it is. To be more specific, as you continue to progress in your workplace, it's in your best interest to change your resume accordingly. The fact that this will keep it more accurate is a given. However, much like any piece of digital content, regular updates will ensure that search engines pick up on it. For resume writers, ignoring your content for too long is nothing short of an oversight.
