How To Find The Best Screenwriting Tips

By Gary Robinson

While most often those involved in writing for film and television have attended a theater arts program and have a degree, this is not always the case. As such, some of the most renown names in Broadway and Hollywood have provided some tips and tricks. Whether offering screenwriting tips or how to get published, these individuals have a lot to offer whether through the Gotham Writer's website or in a classroom environment.

For example, the Gotham Writer's workshop offers a number of classroom and online courses related to writing in different areas. These include, business, corporate, personal development, fiction, non-fiction, comedy, poetry and essentials to getting a screenplay accepted or book published. Although, as corporate and entertainment writing are two very distinct styles, there are often specific degree plans and programs related to each area.

While the main focus is generally on creative writing programs through these workshops, there are some like Gotham who provide coursework in business and corporate writing. Whereas, authors, comedians and poets might be interested in a more dedicated course or program. For, while all writing need have somewhat of a creative aspect, business and corporate writing styles are far different from those of creative fiction and non-fiction.

When it comes to attending classes at Gotham, individuals share on a communal level. For, each class puts the student in a group with other peers. While writing is often an individual and solo art form, networking with other writers is often key to discovering success in the industry. Throughout the duration of most courses, students are often required to complete individual as well as group assignments whether online, or in-person.

When it comes to writing, there are so many different areas of interest. As such, many writers work in a myriad of different genres. For example, one might be an author, director, poet and freelance writer. Whereas, others may find it easier to focus on one specific area such as screenplay or scriptwriting.

A number of companies, corporations, conferences and festivals offer more limited workshops in writing. For example, there are some companies who will provide a professional to teach writing styles related to a specific job or project on-site. Whereas, there are conferences and festivals, such as those offered by the Austin Intenraitonal Poetry Festival which offer more creative oriented workshops.

Individuals interested in learning the art of creative writing can also find courses and workshops at a variety of bookstores, organizations and universities. Whereas, those looking to become involved in film, stage and television are often advised to enroll in a university degree program. For, universities often offer the opportunity to develop independent and student films, audition and participate in theater projects such as plays and usher at these and other events.

Writers working in the area of film and television are often working on a screenplay. Playwrights and others working on Broadway are generally writing or working from a script. While business and corporate writers are often working and writing from drawings, proposals and other documents, creative writers are often working in areas of fiction and non-fiction.
