Information On Ghostwriting Services For Novels And Memoirs

By Freida Michael

To understand why an author would want to use a ghostwriter, first one must understand the concept of ghostwriting. Whether requiring ghostwriting services for novels and memoirs or smaller projects, it is also important to locate the right individual. When an author can find a ghostwriter with knowledge on the subject or topic, one is often going to have a better outcome than otherwise.

Ghostwriting is an art, often used by individuals whom while considered authors have an idea for a story without the ability to write a book or other document in its entirety. Or, by authors whom just do not have time and wish to provide various documents and notations to another writer which can then be organized into book format.

When desiring to hire an individual to do this type work, it is imperative to check references and review portfolios, if one exist. In some cases, individuals may be so new to the area that no portfolio is available. If this is the case, it is often best to request the name of another author whom the individual has worked that can provide a reference.

While writing sites often host samples of different writings, some may work better than others for different projects. The author can assist in getting the best ghostwriter for the job by providing a writing test based in the content and style of the project. Once the author reads the material, then it is easier to decide whether or not the writer might be a good choice for the project.

Freelance writing sites, writing oriented websites, ghostwriter specific sites and others can often provide a number of different individuals from which to see writing samples, or gain other information. While these sites can often provide top quality talent, authors are also generally have to pay top dollar for these individuals, especially since the agency will also get a cut. As such, if an author can afford the high cost of these sites, then one may want to look to sites like craigslist and other sites to locate a ghostwriter.

Like with other projects, it is also good to have pre-set deadlines for review of each section or sections of a book or other publication. For, while it can often be easy to acquire an individual to write a story, not all are as good with deadlines as others. Deadlines are actually one of the most important aspects to inquire about when checking references, otherwise an agent may be expected a manuscript from an author only to have it delayed, delays which at time can end contracts and cancel publications.

Before hiring anyone online outside of an agency format, it is also good to communicate via email and meet in public places when and where necessary. For, while individuals working through agencies often have a background, history and other information associated with an account, others posting ads in online posting ads often do not. As such, to protect an idea for a project, it is often good to keep the idea a secret up and until the signing of a contract.

The contract is probably the most important aspect of a relationship between an author and ghostwriter. Otherwise, an author can simply provide an idea, then later find the book on a shelf written under another name. While it is hard to believe an individual would go to such depths, it would not be the first time, so to protect privacy and creative rights, it is often good to draw up a contract with which each individual must agree.
