Why There Is A Police Reform Talk Radio

By Roger Sanders

Law enforcement has come a long way from its primeval roots. Nowadays, there are nifty gizmos that allow the easy transmission of events immediately and at real time. This is achieved through the police radios and scanners used by its personnel. However, it seems another development is looming in the horizon, what with Police Reform Talk Radio.

Although the point of the whole matter is to relay current events and some such to a dispatcher or listener, everything is not at all as easy as its cut out to be. After all, these patrolmen use a lingo of sorts that make it hard for the everyday citizen to decipher. This jargon is usually referred to as the ten code.

Tuning in is also quite an easy enterprise in itself. One would just need some standalone scanner and he or she will be able to listen in to the communications and correspondences going on. Or else, one can download the police scanner app in his or her mobile device. Its literally as easy and breezy as that.

Naturally enough, these are all hard to decipher, both for the workaday citizen and the starting police officer. However, these arent at all employed for nothing. They actually also serve a nifty purpose.

The police communications radio system is used by law enforcement agencies the whole world over. In some cases, these systems are intentionally encrypted so as to boggle eavesdroppers. However, this procedure doesnt make sense at all in countries where dispatch is entitled and ensured to the public.

Theres totally no denying the extreme usefulness of these police scanner apps. Through it, one is conveniently connected to feeds from the emergency departments in his or her area. With the right app or website link, one can even access scanners even when not at all proximate to the area of interest. So this can be a really nifty way to keep track of your home area even when youre far away from it at the moment.

These reforms have taken the police world by storm, especially after the nine eleven terrorist attacks. The subsequent repercussions have made the public more proactive in these regards. One such move is the use of plain English in these communications.

One can surely appreciate the idea behind this. In the original lingo, there are according codes for everything, which have to be memorized and internalized, and all that under pressure. For example, 10 34 means a bomb threat. 10 36 means burglary and 10 43 means armed robbery. These codes are of course strange and even impractical to workaday citizens.

However, tradition holds clout to the last moment. After all, there indeed are nifty uses and purposes for these rarified codes. On the other hand, the nub of the whole affair is essentially service. So its the general publics interest that has to be catered to, even if it costs these officers some modicum of convenience and breakout from tradition. So there stands the validity of these calls for reform.
