6 Ways To Manage Raw Emotions

By Stephanie Cole

Erupting rage can only be equated to volcanoes. Such a reaction to any situation would be disastrous. When raw emotions are not controlled, they will hurt people you are in relationships with and may cause property destruction in the process. You will be left with court battles to settle and hefty fines. How can you keep the rapturous emotions in check regardless of the intensity of the situation?

One of the easiest strategies according to experts is to take deep breaths. It draws you away from the situation for a minute as you focus on the breathing exercise. It also calms you down and protects you from emotional reactions that would cause destruction. It is a distraction but will result in a calm and collected person who can review actions before taking them to avoid disastrous outcomes.

See the world from the eyes of your opponent. This is anchored on the principle that human beings are inherently good. Only a very small percentage of strangers would harm you driven by malice. Be empathetic and known that the reaction would have been different if the circumstances were different. By giving other people the benefit of doubt, you can objectively assess the situation and act appropriately.

Leave the area where the situation is happening in order to take a break. This is especially important where the burst of rage is triggered by accumulated anger. Take a few days off or walk away from the office into an aerated and lit environment. It helps to be in a place with natural vegetation or an open horizon. This helps you to regain your cool and find the best solution.

Make efforts to take back control over your thinking and actions. Outbursts result from anger and anxiety taking over. It is dangerous to be controlled by anxiety and stress. Your decisions will be hasty and biased by emotions. Master your emotional reactions by practicing and being consciously restraint. It takes time to master the reactions but the benefits will be evidently life changing.

Practice to be at peace in all circumstances. This means that regardless of what comes your way, you will remain calm and collected. Learn to sit quietly and still as you meditate on positive ideas. This can be achieved by learning breathing techniques or using stilling music. Reflect on the goodness that resides in the heart of everyone. You should also wish and strive to stay happy.

Monitor your anger outbursts and find a way of expressing them. It may be directly by talking to the offender or through art, music and other displacements. Naming the feelings enables you to be responsible of the actions you take. You will also not leave anger and anxiety to build-up to the point of being dangerous.

Every individual has a personal limit for anger and outbursts. You need to make a conscious decision leave anger behind. Know your limits and avoid anything that would push you to anger. Be conscious of the repercussions of anger and work towards rational reactions at all times.
