An Overview Of The Sustainable Digital Printing

By Christa Jarvis

From the primitive painting and drawing on the cave wall by the early man to the current advanced and sophisticated printing method of relying information is the transiting that has taken place though the years. Evolution to an environmental sound method by making it sustainable for both the current and coming generation. Sustainable Digital Printing has taken over such practices making the process more environmentally friendly to the living organisms.

Manufacturing industries remain competitive while still upholding the green technology is one of the importance of this system. This is because the processes are complex and need joint inputs from different parties from the manufacturing industries hence there is creation of interdependence. The process is continuous.

There are three distinct codes that sums up the environmental guidelines and responsibilities. They are :the product which houses the proposals, the resources to be used and the produce output that is directly linked to the industries: the envelop that deal with the place of manufacturing and the support given at that place: the process gives the definite prints before and after the process.

This system offers maximum recycling of waste. By use of vegetable based inks in printing work instead of the common that are petroleum based. This activity lowers consumable waste and boosts energy ratings making it more energy efficient. The harvesting of renewable energy and conservation of scarce resources hence good management of waste materials.

There are steps to make this system more sustainable, one, use of biodegradable and renewable materials. This includes the use of vegetable based inks which are petroleum free and also don't contain heavy metals. This makes the production of these materials safe and hence they will be able to perform the so important function well.

The other idea is to make it modular. This involves making custom solutions with standardized materials. This materials prove easy to recycle t the end of life span and they are also easy to repair or update this in the long run lead to its long life span. It is also efficiently manufactured and shipped hence reducing the energy consumption throughout the products life.

One should also consider the size matter and the type. Light fonts are easy to read they are also elegant and are ink friendly compared to bold fonts. Use of lightweight products cut on carbon emission and the cost of shaping. Reducing the paper size by designing small pieces for example cutting an inch off the normal booklet height without compromising its design is a perfect way to manage the size.

Everybody would like to live in a world that is friendly and pleasing to the eyes. Hence taking care of the environment is a collective responsibility. We must all join our hand together and say no to activities that would deprive us a good environment worth living in even in years to come . So that we can all look back and be proud our hand work
