Celebrity Children's Book Authors Your Youngsters Will Love

By Linda Ruiz

It seems that well-known individuals have many talents. There are so many that have become celebrity children's book authors. The variety of stories they have produced are charming and engaging as well as unique. The sale of these volumes is usually higher than regular editions because of the famous names attached to them.

Daughter of famous actor, Tony Curtis, and a well-known actress herself, Jamie Lee Curtis has penned many books for the younger crowd, including "Where Do Balloons Go?, " and "Today I Feel Silly." She is mother to two children and utilizes the Skills of Laura Connell, a talented and dedicated illustrator for all of her work.

Country and western legend, Dolly Parton, re-styled one of her songs into a story for young children. "Coat of Many Colors" is the tale of a poor young girl whose mother could not afford to buy a coat for her. She made one for her daughter instead but the little girl was subjected to ridicule and scorn because of her shabby coat which was made out of rags. She told the children how really rich she felt in the coat her mother made just for her.

James Patterson is best known for his adult mysteries. Switching to middle school writing seems out of character but his new book series is very popular among teens and tweens. The "Middle School" series is about how life is for kids this age and they can really relate to the stories. These books have been listed on the New York Times bestseller listing and the author has won the 2011 and 212 Children's Choice Book Awards.

Country and western singer, Tim McGraw, famous for his song "Live Like You Were Dying, " winner of several number one albums and part-time actor, has another virtually unknown skill as a writer. He wrote two very special books for his young daughter. "My Little Girl" is all about spending time with Dad and "Love Your Heart" touches on the art of being kind.

Brooke Shields, top model and movie star, penned a story of a little girl becoming a big sister. "Welcome to Your World, Baby" shows how helpful this big sister was to the new baby and what she dreamed their relationship would be when the infant was older. This would make a perfect gift for a child about to become an older sibling.

Rock star Madonna, winner of three Grammies and known for her hit singles "Like a Virgin" and "Material Girl, " is an unlikely juvenile author but she actually has several books that she has written for the younger set. These include titles such as "The Adventures of Abdi, " "Mr. Peabody's Apples, " "Yukov and the Seven Thieves, " and "The English Roses."

Many of these individuals surprised the world with their writing and also the focus of their storytelling abilities. Children are universal and it just goes to show that a young child can inspire others to take on tasks that they normally would not have done.
