Self Empowerment Through Team Building Tips

By Robert Hamilton

The principle of nature is that no man can achieve much alone yet no team can achieve anything without contributions from individuals. The strength of any organization or business lies in tapping into the strength of individuals. This is the idea behind self empowerment through team building. As complex or strange as this idea appears, how can you achieve it at personal or business level?

Create new ideas in the minds of participants. Building teams always appears like a difficult task because of the divide between bosses and their juniors. There are people who are known to lead teams and always be trusted in an organization. However, a team will only be built if protocols and existing structures are broken. Build new ideas in the minds of people that it is possible to do things differently. You will empower people who were previously not thought to be powerful.

Use activities organized to help participants to build trust in each other. It is common for workers to either fear or fail to trust others on purpose. Unless there is trust that a boss can deliver and junior can step-in when the need arises, it will be impossible for the organization to achieve harmony and work towards a common goal. Trust also helps you to examine the potential of all individuals and workers in your organization.

Teach your organization members on the need to support each other in the course of work. It is especially important for juniors to feel supported by the organizations they are working for. If their ideas are ignored or there is no involvement during decision making, they withdraw excellent ideas they may be having. This means that the organization will not be making the strides it is supposed to be making. A lot of employees and the entire organization will fail to live to their potential.

Recognize, encourage and reward people during the event as well as beyond. Building a team starts with a singular objective, but it is the contributions of individual participants that matter. Recognize people with talents or special skills and affirm their possible contribution. Those who have been extraordinary at work or during the event should be awarded. It encourages them to go an extra mile.

Create a positive spirit for individuals and the entire organization. This is difficult especially when negative things have to happen. Leaders must provide guidance and make effort to keep everyone on the positive lane.

Teach participants on the benefits of working together or collaborating. The bigger goals can only be achieved when the contribution of everyone counts. The urgency to appreciate individual contributions is very important. It helps you deliver faster. You will use fewer resources, time and still achieve more if you collaborate.

Empowering individuals results in a strong and more capable group. While the activity targets the group, there must be lessons and activities for individuals. There would be no strong group if the members of this group are not empowered enough.
