The Best Way To Write Heartfelt Poetry

By Cornelia White

Heartfelt poetry is a great way to express the way you feel about someone or something. Contrary to the popular belief of many, there is a lot of skill behind writing poems and creating great works. Great poetry involves details, and there are a few details that you can use to help you write great poems.

Many people are under the impression that writing poetry makes them a poet, however, this is not the case. Although your friends and family may think highly of your verses, there is a lot more to being a poet than writing words on a sheet of paper. In order to be a true poet, you will have to have a way with the words that you write.

A poem that comes from the heart needs to have great imagery. The reader needs to be able to paint a picture with the words that you put on paper. The words should be as descriptive as possible. Descriptive words is the only way that you are able to paint a clear picture for your readers, so make sure that you are being as descriptive as possible.

A heartfelt poem needs to be exactly as the words describe. Aside from using descriptive words, your poems should use your feelings, thoughts and emotions throughout the entire piece of work. Your readers will be able to tell if your feelings were put into the words that you have written.

When you are writing poetry, you have to switch roles every now and then. Try not to view things from your standpoint at all times. View things from your reader's perspective and try to get the same affect from your poems. If you can connect with your poems from both perspectives, this is one task that you have successfully completed.

If you aspire to be a great poet and write awesome verses in all of your poems, you have to be willing and able to accept positive and negative forms of criticism. Someone may suggest that you need to make a few revisions here and there. Take the advice, whether it be negative or positive, and use it to your advantage.

The balance within your writings remain between you, the poet, and your audience, the readers. If you can find the thin line for this balance, this is another task that you can cross off of your list. This delicate balance is difficult to find, but it is there.

Being able to write heartfelt poetry is one skill that many people wish they had. These few tips can be used to help you on your journey to being a great poet and creating awesome verses for the world to read. Everything is in the words that you write on paper. As long as your readers are able to relate to some of the things that you are discussing and describing, you are in the ballpark for success and a lot of admirers of your work.
